Case of life: Once a sharp circle, once a sharp sink. A short story about how a brand SHOULD NOT communicate with a customer

One good Facebook contest can bring more benefits to your brand than the most engaging posts. It can affect its image, increase sales, engage new audiences, increase reach, increase response rate if the brand is alert enough to respond to any comment under the contest post. It would seem that the contest on social is never bad. Or maybe, in direct communication, the brand proves that it simply can not communicate, the word “compensation” is too difficult for her and uses the statements: “you won a sweatshirt and you drink a focha that without a hood?”. What was it like?

Contest like any other – write something nice in the post, we will choose the answer and win. In this case, the contest post sounded like this:

Bad luck (yes, now I can write that bad luck) wanted that they chose my answer with a few. Award? “Among the people who post the comment we will draw 4 Loca Bikes sweatshirts and 3 T-shirts (photos and descriptions of t-shirts and sweatshirts on the site”. Well, I spoke to the nice – it seemed – you from Loca Bikes on the competition.

To begin with – a short ball: with or without a hood (that is, in advance they assigned me to a sweatshirt, ok). And only size L. I could be a small-ized man who wears only S, doesn’t like sweatshirts, especially black ones. Void. The question is one thing: with or without a hood? Well, I chose with a hood. I always thought that if someone gives me the opportunity to choose, I can actually make it and choose what I really prefer. Black or milk? With or without sugar? In a cup or in a cossle? And if there is no choice, why would anyone ask a question?

Further, it turns out that the sweatshirt is already sent. After 10 minutes, however, I get the information that the hoodie is gone. I can honestly admit that I felt strange. I understand that when preparing a competition, you select and check the products that you want to be prizes. It turns out there are no hoodies…

My message that the word ‘compensation’ was made was crucial. First, I suddenly became “Lord” and not “You”. Secondly, it turns out that they can send “what we have”. Thirdly, hoodies will be in 1.5 months. Fourth, they suddenly inform me that they still have L-size shirts. Oh, so all of a sudden I have to choose l-size t-shirts.

I have to make a decision as soon as possible. No matter what, no matter how, no matter that the potential customer is satisfied, it is also not important for the brand to prove that it is doing everything to meet expectations or even to fulfill the competition. The important thing is that they pack the package and want to have the matter out of their head.

Unfortunately, as it turned out, the brand chose for me. So I announced that I would not unpack the package and wait for what I chose. And there was neither a gram of aggression, an attempt to make someone a problem, or a pin. I thought, I’m going to pick up and send you away. I will not unpack, I will not destroy, I will not unpack the packaging and wait for this unfortunate hoodie, which I chose. How the brand reacted to this message.

“You won a sweatshirt and you drink a focha, with no hood? Wtf. Don’t get it. We will be 15zł in the back on the courier”

I don’t think that’s the answer of any brand – whether it’s a small form or a chain store or a premium brand known to everyone – that doesn’t require comment. Further translations are equally interesting. The brand writes that she mistakenly assumed that she had hoodies, but they are no longer there. However, I recommend you check what you have, what is not there, what it allocates to the competition and what it offers to customers and potential customers.

I’ve lost the urge to have a non-structured conversation. They kind of don’t want to make an acidic atmosphere, and they keep doing it. Like they wanted to do well, because the contest and prizes, and somewhere with these messages leaks the message: YOU GET FREE, SO WHAT DO YOU WANT? / SOMEONE WOULD BE MORE SATISFIED AND YOU ARE STILL DISCUSSING? It is a pity that such a young brand already at the beginning shows a lack of respect in communication. And it’s not about whether it’s a hoodie or not, whether it’s a t-shirt, a dress or some other piece of fabric. The main thing is that ineadmissive communication kills the best intentions, ideas and good plans. And for the competition, however, it is better to prepare and always have prepared rules.

4 ways to optimize your blog for SEO

There are about 4 billion google queries every day, and only 10 sites are on the first page of the search engine. It is for these positions that the biggest fight continues. So how do you get closer to the top results by running a blog? Of course, by optimizing the site for positioning.

1. Keyword analysis

Keywords are the basis for positioning websites on the web. When running a blog you need to keep in mind not only the transmission of your own thoughts, nice graphic design, but also the relevant words that the search engine will recognize. Of course, they must naturally be integrated into the content, because we write mainly for humans, not Google robots. First, find out what your audience is looking for. One of the easiest ways is simply to type the right word into the search engine, and it will tell you the most search terms. At the bottom of the search engine you can also find more queries related to the search term. It is worth to download the plug-in (eg. Yoast SEO), which will help you optimize phrases for positioning.

Check your keywords

2. URL optimization

Of great importance for the positioning of the blog in the search engine is the use of the so-called. Friendly URLs, that is, those on which the robot will identify the structure of the site and correctly induch it. Which URL is best for Google? One that contains fewer slashes, e.g. domena.pl/produkt,id44.html. An address that has a “?” character is to be changed, as is the following, which creates the risk of duplicating the content: domena.pl/index.php/kategoria/nazwa-wpisu-lub-produktu.

Manual: In WordPress we go to -> Cockpit -> Settings -> Direct Links

3. Meta tag optimization

With Meta tags, Google is able to easily classify a website. The most important are the respective titles of blog entries, description and keywords, that is, in turn meta-title, meta-description and meta-keywords. The title should contain keywords, but at the same time it must be natural and understandable to the user (Google values quality!). Its length should not exceed 65 characters with spaces. Also, keep in mind that Google doesn’t pass titles that are capitalized. The description, which is located just below the title of the search post is designed to encourage the reader to enter the page, Google displays up to 150 characters, so the description should not exceed this value. It is also worth including in the headings (H1, H2, H3) the words keys, or starting with them a paragraph.

Statement: Correctly added H3 and started paragraph with keywords. Of course, we do it naturally

4. Blog graphics

With a lot of graphics on the blog, it is worth paying attention to their optimization, and specifically take care of their compression. Large graphics will make the page load time very long, which can effectively discourage the reader and affect positioning. There are many tools that allow you to evaluate the current page load speed along with hints that graphics should be compressed to improve speed. Another issue is alternative descriptions to photos, i.e. elements related to the HTML code of graphics. The description should include a brief information about what is in the photo. This is important if you want to position your blog well. Google can’t read descriptions, but it can read alternative descriptions. This will tell the search engine what our website is about.

Top 10 Holiday Ads of 2016

Every year, during family christmas gatherings, it happens that the TV is turned on in the background. I don’t have this device in my house, so going out for the holidays to my family is the best opportunity for me to see what Christmas ads caught the most attention on holidays. Here’s my selection of the top 10 Christmas ads of 2016, not just the ones we’ve seen on TV and online.

1.Allegro

I don’t think there’s anyone who’s seen this ad. Allegro gets to the point when it comes to the generational breakdown of the country and the fact that the younger generation spends their holidays outside the country – in their new places to work and live. In order for older people to get to know their grandchildren, they need to put a lot of effort into it. Today, the roles turn around – it is the grandfather who visits his grandson and must overcome the language barrier. Allegro gives a different meaning to the preparations for the holidays. Not surprisingly, the ad collects many awards and praise also abroad.

2. H&M

A nice story directed by Wes Anderson, with its characteristic atmosphere, and playing the main role of Adrien Brody is a Christmas ad H&M, which also draws attention. Sometimes you can not get to the holidays on time, but well-spent holidays are… common holidays.

3. Lidl

Lidl’s Christmas ad is aimed primarily at women. Santa Clara opposes Santa Claus, who after all “only” gives away gifts. It is on the shoulders of women that most often rests the preparation of holidays: dishes, gifts, ornaments. Santa Clara is the festive equivalent of the lady of the house, which owes much more than Santa Claus.

4. Olx

Christmas carol about missed gifts is a proposal olx. I don’t think you need to explain to anyone that OLX is the perfect place to sell a missed gift.

5. Huawei – #BePresent

It’s hard to imagine an ad in which a brand urges users not to use their products. Huawei was tempted to do this in a Christmas ad and it came out… Great. Every device used by family members is, of course, Huawei hardware (here the brand shows its diverse offer), but it urges you to devote more time this holiday to the family, not the virtual world. A little boy looks sadly at busy parents and sister who, staring at their devices, forget about the holidays and do not see their magic. Of course, the festive atmosphere wins, and all household members put off equipment, leave their world and enjoy the holidays. As you can see, you don’t always have to persuade to buy to surprise and attract attention. Robert Lewandowski, huawei brand ambassador, of course, appears in the ad.

6. Heathrow Airport

Who do children cuddle up to to feel safe? Without whom can not fall asleep? Teddy bear is often the favorite cuddly of the little ones. And to whom would they like to cuddle on holidays? Perhaps to grandparents who live far away, and the meeting is possible only once a year? The advertisement for London’s Heathrow Airport refers to the aforementioned associations. Grandma and grandfather, created in the shape of a Paddington Teddy Bear, arrive for the holidays to their grandson, who can finally hug them. Interestingly, the fictional bear character created by Michael Bond, an English writer, was born on Christmas Eve 1956. It was then that the writer bought his wife a lonely teddy bear lying on the shelf of a London toy store.

7. Milka – The Time Chikuł

Children are most waiting for the holidays. They will do everything to speed up the time. Some, as in Milki’s ad, may even build a time machine. Accelerated anticipation thanks to the advent calendar from Milki and the dedication of parents make the time machine really “work”.

8. Coca-cola

Using the band as a ribbon to make the bottle a gift is a very interesting idea.

9. TKMaxx

An unusual way to attract the attention of the customer. TKMaxx succeeded this time, especially thanks to the use of an unusual Christmas carol, the theme of which became the well-known song from KillBilla “Pump it” by Black Eyed Peas.

10. Edeka

The German supermarket chain shows in a very accurate and brutal way what loneliness can motivate a person to do. Advertising has divided customers very much, but the producers themselves explain the importance of holidays in the family circle.
